Training
I am experienced with many breeds from mini's to drafts. Morgans are my specialty. Some of the breeds I have trained are:
  • Gypsy Vanners
  • Haflingers
  • Tennessee Walkers
  • Pasofinos
  • Quarter horses
  • Arabians
  • Saddlebreds
  • Paints
  • Warmbloods
  • Belgian
  • Palominos

studentKind and consistent methods are always used at Cherry Ledge Farm to bring out the natural talent of each horse I work with.

  • I provide training for basic ground manners, round pen, lungeing, long-lining, specialty ground driving, driving for pleasure or show, English (hunt, saddle seat), western and trail.
  • The length of training and results vary for each individual according to their age, natural abilities, conformation, attitude and many more factors.
  • studentTraining fees include one lesson per week for the owner to learn with their horse. This helps the owner stay consistent in the future with methods used to bring the horse along and makes the transition back home go more smoothly ($140 - $200 value). Extra lessons are available for regular lesson fees.
  • Training is available for pleasure or showing goals.
  • Showing is available with clients at open all breed shows in New England and various Morgan Shows in the New England area (and other shows if scheduling allows for it.)

studentTraining fees are $650 per month ($50 non-refundable deposit is required to hold a stall.) The fees include: full board care, 12 X 12 rubber matted stall, daily individual turnout, grooming, feeding supplements supplied by owner, 10% pellets (other grains paid by owner), owner supplies own hay (if possible), stalls are cleaned daily. The horse will be worked five days per week and the owner receives one private lesson with the horse per week (extra lessons will be charged.)

Showing available for client's horses or coaching students.

Video Evaluations

This is a service that is coming to a reality, due to numerous requests over the years by horse owners in remote areas that do not have access to quality training. This service is designed for horse owners that wish to work with their own horse and do not have easy access to a quality trainer. These are the highlights of this new service:

  • Owners will send a video done in the layout detailed below, a completed questionnaire and the basic fee.
  • Follow-up can be sent by email to the horse owner, or it may be printed out and sent by postal mail.
  • A video can be sent of basic training methods (for an extra fee) pertaining to the horse and owner's needs, if a visual method would work better.
  • Two follow-up emails are included with the basic price.
  • Owners will in no way hold Cherry Ledge Farm liable for training methods used and owners must use their own discretion in attempting all recommendations. (A release of liability will be sent prior to information being released. This must be signed and returned to CLF.)

The basic evaluation package is $75.00. This includes the questionnaire completed by the owner to include but not limited to: horse and owner's history, goals, information on the horse, tack environment, owner's experience, problems encountered, feeding and care information.

The video supplied by the owner is to include but is not limited to:
  1. Horse conformation--a view of all sides, lead at walk and trot on straight lines to and away from the camera.
  2. The environment the horse is being worked in (round pen, ring, field) and the place stabled or kept in.
  3. The tack and equipment off the horse and on the horse.
  4. The horse lunged or free lunged (if possible).
  5. The owner working with the horse.
  6. A demonstration of issues you would like help with.
  7. Other information that will help in my evaluation of the horse and the rider.

The owner will receive an email or postal mail with detailed recommendations and methods to try with their horse (after signed release is received). It is understood that this is to be done at the owner's own risk.

A video can be taped on the farm (for an extra fee that will vary by topic and length) to demonstrate methods recommended and the use of any equipment, bits or training aids (for owners use only). Each tape will be customized for the individual client. The prices start at $40.00.
